SEMA LEGISLATIVE ALERT - June 2004

North Carolina
Introduces Bill to Reduce Historic Vehicle Registration Fees

A bill (H.B. 1790) has been introduced in the North Carolina Legislature to reduce the annual registration fees for historic vehicles from $20.00 to $10.00 by charging for only the historic plate and exempting these vehicles from the current annual registration fee of 20.00

We Urge You to Contact Your State Legislators Immediately to Support H.B. 1790

The reduced registration fee would be available to vehicle owners bearing a "Historic Vehicle Owner" special registration plate.

Under current North Carolina law, "Historic Vehicle Owner" plates can be issued for a motor vehicle that is at least 35 years old.

Vehicles registered under this class must be maintained primarily for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades and other public interest functions and only occasionally for other purposes.

Contact your own state legislators in Raleigh immediately by phone, fax or e-mail to support this legislation.

If you need assistance in determining who your legislators are and their contact information, please contact the North Carolina General Assembly's General Information Line at 919 733-7928.
