| The
Summer of 1998, Paul Grubbs and his father David made the drive from
Palmetto, Georgia to DriveTek, Transmission Training Academy in
Jeffersonville, Indiana. Paul's father told us they had been looking
for DriveTek for several years. Paul had attended post-secondary
vocational college following high school and Paul's interest was in
transmissions. Paul had searched the internet for training options and
had seen our ad in Gears. Paul registered for the comprehensive
builder training and came to DriveTek for 3 months to train. Today,
Paul and his father own Paul's Transmission Repair Shop in Palmetto.
In January 1998 Kevin Dauer, Owner of AAMCO
Transmission, Mankato Minnesota invested tuition, travel, lodging and three
months lost production time in Mark Sonnek. Mark completed comprehensive
builder training and returned to Minnesota in April 1998. Mark remains
a loyal employee of AAMCO and Kevin tells us his investment was a good
business decision.
Steve and Jill DiGiovanni own Ace Transmission
in New Hampshire. Even though Steve, Sr. is a master builder and owns
the shop, he and Jill felt their son, Steve, Jr. need training from outside
the family and away from the shop. Steve attended training classes
from June 2001 - August 2001 and has "been on the bench non-stop".
"DriveTek was far more comprehensive than we expected". Steve, Jr.
came home from training "ready for the bench".
Dennis Holcomb, An Instructor for DriveTek
traveled to the corporate offices of Motorola to provide training to the
engineers working with the automobile industry. Dennis has provided
training year-round for DriveTek since August 1998. Dennis is a
builder by trade, he has owned his own shop and he has been employed by two
of the major franchises of our industry. His ability to build is
amazing BUT he also has the talent to teach others how to build.
DriveTek has hosted Technicians from Raybestos
for one-week specialty training regarding electronics and hydraulics as they
relate to the transmission. Since the need is critical for good
builders and technicians, DriveTek has remolded courses to adjust to
particular needs and requests. Our efforts are to light a fire under
the entire transmission industry to have better technicians. Our
immediate goal is to show that we are doing our part. Now the training
is being provided. It's time for people interested in this industry to
do their part. |

Why Transmissions?
Transmission specialists rank among
the best compensated of automotive repair technicians. Studies confirm that
there is a national shortage of qualified automotive repair technicians.
This shortage is even more severe in qualified automotive transmission
repair specialists. The law of supply and demand dictates that trained,
experienced transmission specialists can expect a much higher than average
income.
Trained/Experienced Transmission Specialist vs.
Non-Specialists
Studies indicate that non-specialist
automotive technicians entering the marketplace can expect a starting salary
of approximately $8.00 per hour. It is anticipated that DriveTek trained
transmission specialists will enter the job market at $12.00 to $16.00 per
hour with opportunity to earn up to $22.00 as job skills and proficiency
improve with additional experience.
