Press Release:
Newark, Delaware October 9, 2003—It’s wider, longer and taller…The all-new 2004 Dodge Durango was officially launched today at the Newark, Delaware Assembly Plant as Chrysler Group President and CEO Dieter Zetsche joined over 2,000 employees in the celebration.

The event also signaled the advent of several new product launches for the Chrysler Group. “Today marks the beginning of ten new product launches for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge over the next twelve months and our manufacturing operations play a critical role in the successful launch of these vehicles,” said Zetsche. “The same rigorous efforts at Newark Assembly that were put towards improving quality and flexibility will be incorporated into our other manufacturing facilities as we ramp up for new vehicle production.”

“The all-new Dodge Durango will offer more vehicle options than its predecessor, and will be produced more efficiently, requiring fewer production hours per vehicle,” said Marc Seguin (Segan’) Dodge Marketing. “We are proving through the launch of this vehicle that flexibility can be applied to an existing, and quite mature, manufacturing operation.”

The Chrysler Group invested millions of dollars in the Newark Assembly Plant in preparation for production of the all-new Durango. Earlier this year, the company confirmed that it had reduced initial capital expenditures by 30 percent in preparation for the launch, due to flexible manufacturing strategies and reuse of exiting plant equipment.

The all-new 2004 Dodge Durango is approximately seven inches longer, three inches taller and two inches wider than the previous Durango. The 2004 Durango is larger than its full-size SUV competition, but smaller and more efficient than large SUVs. It has the capability of matching or beating large SUV competition in towing capability and interior space, while being lighter, more fuel efficient and less expensive.

The vehicle features a new trio of engines that deliver a ten percent improvement in fuel efficiency. They include the 5.7-liter HEMI Magnum engine, delivering a best-in-class horsepower and torque rating, as well as the 4.7-liter Magnum V-8 and the 3.7-liter Magnum V-6.

The all-new 2004 Dodge Durango will be available for sale this November.
