Injector Service

Words from Sam on Injector ServiceI hope you have been following this entire series of articles to help you better understand your vehicle, while getting the most out of it. I’m confident that the information discussed here, along with the level of service offered by the Pros at Thornton Chevrolet, Mazda, Isuzu will definitely help you keep cost of ownership low, while providing you with vehicle dependability and longevity.

In the first 5 articles, we discussed some of the high points of the staring and charging system. We also touched on maintaining that factory-fresh performance. In 'Tune Up & General Maintenance' we discussed the basics of keeping your vehicle’s engine running efficiently. The more efficient any engine runs, the more economical it is to operate, and the longer it will last.

All new vehicles are equipped with electronic fuel injection systems, operated by an on-board computer or microprocessor. Since 1995, the world of automotive computers advanced to the second generation of computer controls called OBD-II. These microprocessors are much faster, more powerful, and extremely smart. They have the ability to recognize and diagnose any malfunctions associated with engine, transmission, and even ABS system performance.

Keeping the fuel injector nozzles clean is critical to good performance and economy. Injector nozzles are designed to spray atomized fuel in an efficient cone-shaped pattern. Over time, chemicals in gasoline tend to collect on the fine openings at the tip of the injector. When this occurs, the spray pattern is distorted, and it requires more fuel to get the job done.

With fuel prices remaining high, it’s more important that ever to maintain the injectors. A professional injection cleaning, and throttle body service can restore lost power, performance, and fuel economy. There is a real payback to you when you invest in these services. Your service advisor can advise you if and when this needed service should be performed.

Don’t overlook the ever-important fuel filter. Check the owner’s manual or with your service advisor as to the right interval for your vehicle and driving style. Personally, I change the fuel filters in my gasoline engines every 25,000 miles. It’s cheap insurance against fuel system failures.

Even a basic oil and filter change can affect the way your vehicle runs. It’s more critical than ever to use a quality filter engineered and designed specifically for your engine. The exact grade and classification of engine oil is also important.

Two things I always say: You’ve never seen a man shot for washing the dishes, and you’ll never hurt an engine using factory oil filters and clean oil!  Are you sure that a quick oil change service facility knows exactly which oil is right for your car? You can rest assured that the professional service folks at Thornton know, and have the correct oil and filters in stock. They also know your GM, Mazda, or Isuzu vehicle better than the “One size fits all” outlet.
